Retired or Off-Duty Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Community Service (Security Part-Time)

The right candidate will be flexible and able to work Sundays, 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Additional hours frequently available to cover other days/shifts for events and vacations. Must be available to work holidays as needed.

Core Responsibilities:

• Responsible for creating an environment of approachability and inclusion across the USML campus.
• Responsible for demonstrating a culture of “service,” “safety,” “integrity,” and “preparedness” at all times.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide safety and security surveillance of all campus buildings and grounds.
• Check exteriors/interiors of all buildings.
• Verify normal boiler/HVAC operation.
• Complete shift daily activity reports and incident reports as required Standard Procedures.
• Conduct follow-up investigations of all incidents; prepare documentation and participate in court cases as required.
• Report safety hazards.
• Accept, assess and complete work orders as assigned and required.
• Report required maintenance through work order system and/or to facilities.
• Assess and initiate snow removal/ice control procedures.
• Maintain contact with county and local law enforcement agencies and fire departments to assist in maintaining a safe campus.
• Generate, review and assess incident reports and documentation of physical security checks; verify accuracy and thoroughness in reporting processes.
• Monitor campus.
• Administer campus parking rules.
• Perform crowd and traffic control during events on campus.
• Respond to off-hours maintenance needs. Initiate emergency maintenance procedures as required.
• Remain vigilant at all times. Report suspicious persons, unusual activities or events to local authorities’ and supervision.
• Respond to burglar and fire alarms.

Ancillary Job Functions:

• Self-starter, punctual and reliable.
• Strong people and leadership skills; friendly and personable.

Education and Experience:

• Police, Community Service Officer or Fire Experience preferred.
• High School Graduate.
• CPR, AED and First Aid Training a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action.
• Valid state of Illinois Driver’s License.
• Ability to communicate effectively to staff, residents, fellow employees, visitors and supervisors, verbally and written in English.
• Additional language skills is a plus.
• Ability to read and comprehend warning labels on materials, supplies and equipment.
• Ability to use laptop computer/smart devices and other software.

Work Environment:

• Ability to work in a Catholic/Religious environment.
• Knowledge and awareness of workplace safety, including proper usage and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Must be willing to wear the prescribed uniform.
• Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composer under stress, using tact, good judgment and the ability to work with others as a team.
• Ability to work in all interior and exterior conditions including rain, snow, cold and hot weather.
• Neat in appearance.

Physical Abilities:

• Must maintain excellent physical condition to perform the duties as assigned, including the ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
• Capable of long periods of standing, walking, sitting and/or repetitive motions with extremities.
• Ability to climb and descend multiple flights of stairs.
