The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Dixon is now accepting applications for the position of:  Police Officer

Testing is being conducted for anticipated hiring needs and to establish a new eligibility list for future hiring.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's at the time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the time of filing application (10/12/22) and at such time as the Final Eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer in a municipality in the United States.  Applicants must have attained their 19th birthday by the last date for filing applications (10/12/22).  Candidates who are under 21 years cannot be hired until they are the age of 21.
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED or High School Proficiency Certificate
• Character:  Applicants must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Testing:  Must be able to complete all phases of testing.
• Residence:  Officers are required to live within 12.5 miles from the City of Dixon within one (1) year of the date of hire.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: NOTE: Candidates that possess a valid POWER Card issued between the dates of 4/29/22 – and at time of testing 10/29/22 will be exempt from taking the physical on the day of testing. (MUST provide a copy of POWER Card in their returned support packet material and bring POWER Card on the day of test.)

Applications are NOT available at the Dixon Police Department or City Hall.
