The police department currently employs 31 full-time police officers, 7 part-time officers and 2 community service officers that handle nearly 30,000 calls per year. Grayslake Police currently serve the Village of Hainesville as part of a police services contract in effect since 2011. Patrol officers work a twelve-hour shift with alternating weekends off.
The Grayslake Police Department is a nationally accredited agency through CALEA, (Commission for Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). The police department is data driven, but with an emphasis on the community and its specific challenges. The department is managed by a chief, deputy chief, 3 commanders and 4 sergeants.
After hire and with significant department training and experience an officer may move on to such assignments as; evidence technician, criminal investigator, NIPAS Mobile Field Force (Civil Unrest Team), NIPAS Emergency Services Team, (SWAT), Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, Lake County Gang Unit, (gang and organized crime specialists), Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, (drug enforcement specialists).
