Middle School Dean's Assistant

Position Qualifications:
- 18 Years of Age
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Some college preferred but not required.)
- Fluency in English required
- Fluency in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, or Polish preferred
Work Year:
School Year Position (178 days)
(Additional days of compensated professional development at the determination of the school district.)
Purpose:
The middle school dean's assistants perform duties to maintain a safe and secure school environment, providing additional supervision and assisting in monitoring student behavior.
Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the principal or their designee the Dean's Assistant:
- Provides supplemental supervision during student arrivals and dismissal as directed.
- Provides supplemental supervision during student lunch periods as directed.
- Monitor student behaviors in various locations throughout the facility and throughout the day in a variety of settings.
- Intervene when observing inappropriate behavior and refer students to the Dean's office as needed (using de-escalation techniques.)
- Supervise students in small groups as directed.
- Escort students within the school building as directed by the Principal or their designee.
- Ensure students and visitors possess correct passes and identifications.
- Check and secure doors and stairways and monitor security cameras as directed.
- Supervise evening and weekend events (for additional compensation) as requested by the principal.
- Use general office equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency using the technology and computer-based programs provided by the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Specific skill and knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Reading and spoken fluency and comprehension in English.
- Knowledge of and adherence to school safety and security practices and protocols.
- Successful completion of required workplace training and professional development including but not limited to CPI and other relevant school safety training as determined by the district.
- Operation of standard office equipment and computers.
