Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Rock Falls are now accepting applications for the position of Entry Law Enforcement.

Testing is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for future hiring needs.

Rock Falls is a city located just over 100 miles west of the city of Chicago. It is separated from its twin city, Sterling, to the north by the Rock River. The Rock River is a place with many outdoor recreational activities which include kayaking and canoeing along with the many parks available for family fun outings. You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Social Security:  Must have a valid Social Security Card and present a copy with your application verification documents.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of application and time of hire
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have obtained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (8/9/23) or 20 years of age and successfully completed two (2) years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be under the age of 35 years at the date of filing application 8/9/2023 and at such time as final eligibility list is posted unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality; or to any person who has served as a Deputy under the counties code or as a sworn officer of the Illinois State Police; or to any person who has served as an auxiliary police officer for at least 5 years and is under 40 years of age. Veterans who have served in active military duty for at least one year may exceed the age limitation of 35 years by years served in active military duty, but by no more than 10 years.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  Must reside within 30-minute response time to the police department.
• Language: Must be able to comprehend the English Language, both spoken and written.
• Tattoo Policy:  No Tattoos on hands, face, neck, others subject to review.

There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the  City Hall or Rock Falls Police Department.
