Job Summary:

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the lobby entrance and other areas of school grounds, maintaining order and discipline, crime prevention, investigating student violations of Board policy, and is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors in the school. Assists all staff with enforcing policies and procedures for a safe and orderly school.

Responsibilities:

1. Monitors main entrance/lobby area of the building
2. Issues visitor passes, assists authorized visitors and directs to proper personnel/department, routes or detains unwanted visitors, and issues trespass warnings to individuals on school property for non-legitimate reasons
3. Maintains an awareness of vehicles entering and leaving school grounds
4. Monitors students' first period attendance for tardiness and single period truancies, and assists the Assistant Principal and Dean with recognizing these trends
5. Checks hall passes of students going to/from class
6. Assists with the monitoring of student lunch periods
7. Escorts students and visitors to appropriate locations in the building
8. Intervenes to halt or prevent fights, disturbances, or other incidents and diffuse threatening or confrontational situations between students or others
9. Assists with loading/unloading of buses to ensure an orderly transition
10. Monitors restroom and locker room area software/sensors for unwanted student behaviors
11. Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the building, grounds, and parking lot to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school policies
12. Assists administration and staff with crisis and emergency situations
13. Notifies the administration, staff, School Resource Officer, Fire Department, and/or other appropriate personnel of security or emergency situations
14. Actively monitors cameras, door lock sensors, entrances and exits, to provide consistent surveillance
15. Assists with investigations of student violations of school policies and documents the investigation, when needed
16. Works with school personnel to develop a positive rapport with students and the community
17. Abides by all District and School guidelines and directives
18. Other duties as assigned
