The City of Naperville's Police Department seeks a Digital Evidence Technician to maintain and process digital media for the Police Department and manage the complete suite of video media systems. The position is responsible for managing system security, maintenance, storage, retrieval, transfers, copying, dissemination, and destruction of digital media according to legal and policy requirements. This full-time, civilian (non-union) position works an 8-hour shift Monday – Friday.
The Digital Evidence Technician processes all formats of digital media, extracting relevant evidence; prints photographs and copies video and audio tapes; operates and maintains digital media equipment; prepares paperwork and items of evidence for laboratory requests and transports evidence to and from labs. The position receives, maintains, and provides for proper disposition of evidence and property according to established procedures and arranges for and document final disposition of evidence and property. Additionally, the Digital Evidence Technician performs data entry to maintain computerized chain of evidence for each property or evidence item and conducts inventory of all items held by the unit; responds to citizen and other governmental agencies pertaining to evidence, property and court orders; provides assistance to internal and external customers; and coordinates with the DuPage and Will County States Attorneys, Illinois Attorney General, and federal prosecutors officers to provide digital evidence.
