Responsibilities of Position:

• METCAD 9-1-1 is the primary Public Safety Answering Point and multijurisdictional consolidated dispatch center serving citizens, law enforcement, and fire agencies in Champaign County, IL.
• In addition to performing emergency call taking, dispatching, and other related duties, Telecommunicator IIs are a resource for Telecommunicator Is, temporary staff, user agency personnel, and Telecommunicator Supervisors.
• They are responsible for on-the-job/console and ad-hoc work performance guidance/refresher training of new and post-probationary telecommunicators, respectively; direct other employees in the performance of work; and receive, respond to, and respond to a variety of questions, issues, and updates in the absence of a Telecommunicator Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

• Education equivalent to a high school diploma. Completed coursework without a diploma will be considered.
• Successful completion of 9-1-1/emergency dispatcher training and probationary periods at METCAD 9-1-1 or a comparable agency.
• Ability to perform data entry at 35 net words per minute with 90% or higher accuracy.
• Ability to perform essential functions that require physical ability as noted in the job description, with or without accommodation.
• Ability to effectively utilize personal computers for web-based and other computer applications, such as LEADS, CAD, and 9-1-1 systems.
• Ability to work any shift, including holidays and weekends, and overtime assignments.
• The ability to obtain, within an approved timeframe and maintain for the duration of employment in the position, LEADS and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional formal education, certification, training, or professional development in public safety, emergency communications, or a related area.
• Experience providing feedback to co-workers or subordinates.
• Experience supervising, leading, or training others.
