Position Details

The Village of Schiller Park is Seeking a Full-Time Community Service Officer.

Job Requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States. If not born in the U.S., you must provide a copy of proof of U.S. citizenship.
• Driver's License: Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application and the time of hire.
• Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma or GED Certificate, AND a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited College or University.
• Character: Must be of good moral character and must be physically and psychologically suitable to perform the duties of a Police Officer, both at the time of application and at the time of appointment.
• Residence: Within six months of the completion of a new hire's 18-month probationary period residency must be established within the following borders: East - Lake Michigan, West - IL Route 47, North - Wisconsin border and South - I 80. 

Further Requirements:

• Applicant must be able to provide validated evidence of successful completion and certification from an approved full or part-time police academy within one year of employment by the Village.
• Applicants shall be trained in accordance with the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705/1 et. seq.) and the rules and requirements of the ILETSB.
• Applicants must be free of any felony convictions, or misdemeanor criminal convictions as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-1-7 of the Illinois Revised Statutes.
• Applicants must have been previously employed as a municipal, county, university, or state law enforcement officer.
• Must provide copies of birth certificate, high school diploma or GED, military service record and discharge papers, college transcript, social security card, valid driver's license, background release and resume to the Village.
• New hires will be subject to an eighteen (18) month probationary period. 

Responsibilities:

• Enforce local Village codes, including parking enforcement, animal control, and nuisance abatement.
• Provide public services on behalf of the Village, including assisting motorists, removing abandoned vehicles, filling in for school crossing guards, performing courier duties, fingerprinting, and reporting unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
• Respond to and investigate animal-related service calls. Take custody of dangerous or nuisance animals and impound stray or biting animals. Prepare animal bite reports as required by state, county, and local laws.
• Book non-violent arrestees.
• Provide notices and immobilize eligible vehicles.
• Inventory property and complete general reports.
• Assist with vehicle and pedestrian control at crash scenes, incidents, and Village special events.
• Provide support for records personnel or other civilian staff as needed.
• Evaluate and complete red light photo enforcement citations as needed.
• Performs other related duties as requested.
