Looking to fill 3 Security Officer positions!
Position Summary:
The Security Officer ensures the safety, security, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors across school grounds and events. Working closely with school administration, the officer helps maintain order, investigates violations of school policy, and supports emergency and safety operations district-wide. Superintendent has the right to modify essential responsibilities and duties. The Security Officer shall report to the Building Principal to which they are assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years' experience in law enforcement, military, public safety, or security
- Valid permit under the Illinois Retired Officer Concealed Carry Program (IROCC)
- Valid driver's license and photo identification issued by former law enforcement agency which identifies former law enforcement experience
- Maintains licensure for the right to carry a concealed firearm under Law Enforcement Safety Act (18 U.S.C. § 926C)
- School resource officer or command staff experience (preferred)
- Prior experience in a school setting (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Familiarity with NIMS and school safety practices
- Compliance with all Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board policies and procedures pertaining to the use of deadly force.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to act independently and handle crises professionally
- Technical knowledge of communication systems and surveillance tools
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Willingness to travel between buildings and attend meetings
- Proficient in using district-specified technology
Essential Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of all personnel and secure premises according to district policy
- Assist administrators and staff members in times of crisis
- Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking areas; deter and report suspicious or unauthorized activity
- Enforce school rules and board policies; assist with student behavior management
- Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and radios; maintain order and respond to emergencies
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, and emergency response agencies
- Support and assist with investigations, including student misconduct and residency
- Serve on crisis teams and school safety committees
- Assist with special events and traffic duty
- Contribute to the development of safety plans
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Frequent standing, walking, and interacting with students and staff
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds; regular use of computers and radios
- Ability to respond to emergencies, including the use of defensive equipment
- Work conditions vary from quiet offices to noisy school environments
- Fast-paced duties across multiple sites; must maintain professional demeanor under pressure
Work Schedule:
The work day and work week will consist of hours/days as defined by the Superintendent. The schedule may include nights, weekends, summer work. Applicants are expected to be available after school hours, weekends or for extracurricular events.
