The Board of Police Commissioners for the City of Harvard is now accepting applications for the position of: Police Officer
Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire and to establish a new Eligibility List for future anticipated openings.

The Harvard Police Department is a full-service police department operating 24 hours every day. The department currently has 17 sworn officers who serve the community of approximately 10,000 residents. To maintain the high quality of life and low crime rate in the City, the Police Department incorporates a comprehensive, pro-active approach to delivering police services. The Department serves the citizens of the community in a number of ways.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen who speaks, reads, writes and understands English.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
- Age Requirement: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date for filing applications (3/27/19) and at such time as the Final Eligibility List is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality, regardless of whether the municipality is located in Illinois or any other state. Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (3/27/19).
- Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement and MUST have successfully completed 60 hours of college credit hours at a fully accredited college or university, certified copy of transcript is required by the final deadline date for filing applications (3/27/19).
- POWER Card: Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card issued no earlier than 10-13-18 from NIPSTA (Only NIPSTA P.O.W.E.R. Cards will be accepted www.nipsta.com between the dates of 10/13/18 – 4/13/19)
- Residence: Applicant must reside within 30 air miles of the City of Harvard after completion of the 18-month probationary period.
- Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
- Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing

There is a $40.00 non-refundable application fee. Applications are NOT available at the Harvard Police Department or City Hall.

Orientation – 8:00 AM
Written Examination immediately following the Orientation
*Note: Applicants that have successfully met the minimum passing score for the written examination portion will be required (at a later date) to take a typing test. Must be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
